I love my job…*enter sarcastic sigh now*
I am really starting to hate my job. For a while it was tolerable and even sometimes pleasant to be at. Go in, do my job and go home. No big deal. As of recently the customer comments & actions have taken me one step from the edge of flipping out. Here is one example of what irritates me.For those who don’t know, I am a cashier at a grocery store.
Customer come through my line and purchases one item for $2.75. She hands me a $5. We have a little machine that spits out the loose change at the end of the register. I go to hand her $2.oo and she smacks the quarter on the little counter.
Customer: I want a new quarter!
Me: (There was nothing wrong with the quarter she had) I’m sorry I have no loose change in my drawer but if you go to customer service they can exchange the quarter for you.
Customer: Why should I have to go to customer service?
(By this time I am irritated by her snippy tude’!)
Me: Because it’s your quarter now, not mine.
Customer: Oh my God,how rude!
Me rude?!? Okay, so I snatched the quarter from her hand and walked as slowly as possible to customer service desk and switched the quarter for her. I shouldn’t have but I did because I wanted evil wench away from me. She snatched it out of my hand and walked over to where we have sanitizing wipes for the carts and grabbed one to wipe down the quarter. Whatever! What makes people think it’s okay to act that way. She’s lucky I wasn’t the customer behind her who had to wait because I would have had a few choice words for her.
All over one quarter.

Rudeness towards the service industry is becoming as commonplace and acceptable as road rage. Why is this ok? I think people become de-sensitized because in many ways it’s ‘anonymous.’ It’s easy to call that guy in the car a @(#*$&^ dolt and it’s easy to be rude and take out all of the stresses of the day on someone you will likely never see again.
It’s not right and we need to start raising the bar on how we treat our fellow human beings. http://maia1111.wordpress.com
Yikes! Time to kick your job hunt in high gear, eh?!
I know right? LOL
OMG!! You are way nicer than I would have been!!! What a crazy jack ass!! Happy job hunting mama
Omg Denise, I hear you about customers. I get some real nasties at my work and I’ve about had it.
